As an aspiring business owner, I have an understanding of the importance of assertiveness and resolving conflict as a team member, leader, and manager and therefore I have decided to improve my level of assertiveness. In any organization conflict is inevitable and therefore it is necessary that I develop the skill of knowing how to not only manage and control conflict but also resolve it. According to a recent article titled ‘managing yourself’, Assertiveness is a skill that can help you control stress and anger and improve coping skills. There is considerable research evidence which identifies conflict at work to be a significant source of stress (parkes, 1989) which could induce fatigue, irritability, and inability to concentrate. Therefore, lack of assertive could possibly lead to an inability to effectively lead and contribute to a team.

The Johari window findings suggest that there are some attributes that others believe that I obtain that contribute to my level of assertiveness, according to the peak counseling group (Reyes, 2015), The different attributes that contribute to being assertiveness is confidence, respect, and tactfulness. I have learned from previous social situation that I become a bit anxious during socialising which shows me that I’m not as confident as people thought

My classmate perceived me differently Than I perceived myself as they believed that I was confident and extroverted whereas I usually shy away from any social situations. ‘The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People’, Stephen Covey Managers and directors need to feel confident about their roles, their ability to inspire their teams to even greater achievements and at the same time continue their own journey of personal growth and development.

How might this skill help me in the future? (use references to support your argument)
Assertiveness might help me to When you communicate and co-operate well with others, I will find it easier to accept or decline offers and requests – allowing me to have additional freedom to focus other tasks and priorities. Avoiding the need to agree with others opinion in the work place might also be beneficial to the organisation as different opinions and ideas will help to build in other areas that others might fall short in.

Teamwork includes a small group of individuals with complementary skills who hold themselves mutually accountable to successfully achieve a task or goal. Team working is important for every organization with regards to diversity and difference, the practice of group-and teamworking necessitates the ability of team members to understand and appreciate the difference in others. (Butler & Rose 2011). In every organisation teamwork is vital and crucial for them to function as more than one person is needed. Teamworking is important in almost every organisational behaviour-related context. (Butler & Rose 2011)

In the future, I desire to be a manager of my own business and lead a successful Team that is happy, as a team that is happy will be more willing and enthusiastic to bring a project to completion. It is critically important to effectively manage your time so that you can successfully meet any targets they you may have and unnecessary stress and inefficiencies. ‘Generally, time management refers to the development of processes and tools that increase efficiency and productivity of both managers and employees in a timely manner. (Butler & Rose, 2011). The reason why this is the skill that I have chosen to reflect on is because it will be required of me to balance a number of different tasks and priorities in the workplace to be both an effective team leader and member.
